Suella Braverman scraps with Cleverly and Cole

Cleverly had reacted to a post by Nigel Farage showing a video of himself apparently visiting Cleverly’s constituency (it is unclear if he had given him notice, as per parliamentary protocol). With the video apparently showing a number of immigrants in the streets, he wrote: “Just another day in @JamesCleverly’s constituency. Unless we get a Reform government, every town in Britain will look like this.”

This prompted Cleverly to respond: “Wait until Nigel finds out that these people are in Braintree because Suella Braverman and Rob Jenrick opened an asylum accommodation centre in my constituency. Where are Rob and Suella now?”

This prompted Braverman, a woman who has never seen a fire without rushing towards it with a bucket of petrol, to wade in, writing: “You were Home Secretary after me. If you were so opposed to Wethersfield, you could have shut it down. Why didn’t you do that?”

Cleverly replied: “Have you never read the Ministerial Code? Are you not aware that ministers have to recuse themselves from decisions that would directly benefit themselves or their constituencies?

“Also I spent most of my time as Home Secretary clearing up the mess you left.” Ouch!

Braverman did respond again – but as it was a muddled rant conflating the ECHR and the Chagos Islands and concluded “The country is still clearing up the ness [sic] you left”, it can be safely ignored.

Meanwhile, Braverman found time to get involved in another spat with a man once one of her most ardent supporters – Harry Cole, the former Sun political editor who, having decamped to the US to present a YouTube show titled Harry Cole Saves The West has presumably saved the West and is now heading home.

Cole wrote a column for the Sun at the weekend headlined ‘“Is rattled Reform going to blow it?” in which he told the nation’s brickies what Westminster has long known: Nigel Farage’s party are currently at war with each other.

In it, he wrote how “fed up with being locked in the cupboard, Tory defector Suella Braverman was on resignation watch”.

“Would have been nice for you to check with me (or my team) before you wrote about me, Harry,” responded Braverman publicly.

“To put the record straight: this is rubbish. Attempts to divide us will not work. Reform UK is the last chance to save the country and we’re not going to let anyone stop us.”

Except, it seems, themselves. Sometimes Rats in a Sack writes itself!
