Is Tommy Robinson actively angling for the longest possible sentence?

By publicly impugning the jury which found him guilty, the far right thug seems determined to provoke a heavy punishment

Earlier this week Rats in a Sack reported on Tommy Robinson, the far right thug found guilty of harassing two journalists, and how he lasted 25 minutes from explaining how he couldn’t comment on the case to labelling their employers “fucking wankers”.

Now it appears Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, appears absolutely determined to secure himself the longest sentence possible after once again breaking his monastic silence to pontificate publicly on the independence of the jury.

The activist, found guilty on October 28 of using “bully-boy intimidatory tactics” to frighten and harass two Daily Mail journalists, leading them to flee their homes and employ private security, wrote on X: “Look at the voting patterns for the catchment of the jury. They stacked the odds as much as they could.”

Quite how Robinson knows the voting patterns of the members of the jury is unclear. The court is in the constituency of Bermondsey and Old Southwark, which has voted Labour since 2015 (it was previously held by the Liberal Democrats’ Simon Hughes), but it draws its jury pool from a wide range of postcode districts across central, south and parts of north and east London.

What’s more, Robinson actively chose a jury trial. When he first pleaded not guilty to two counts of harassment causing fear of violence at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in June 2025 he was told that his case could be heard at a magistrates’ court but instead chose a jury trial held at a crown court.

Addressing Robinson, senior district judge Paul Goldspring said: “Mr Lennon, I have decided that if you wanted, you can have your case at this court as the powers are sufficient but you have elected to have a jury trial as is your right.”

And indeed, in 2024, when Robinson was facing charges of contempt of court in an entirely separate case (for which he was eventually jailed for 18 months), he wrote: “I want a jury, not a corrupt political judge. Let me be tried by 12 members of the British public.”

Now he has been found guilty, though, he has decided to publicly impugn the jurors who found against him by a 10-2 majority – something which is unlikely to go down well with the sentencing judge.

Robinson already faces up to 10 years in prison for threatening Jacob Dirnhuber and Andrew Young after they reported that he had made a series of “incendiary posts” about the unrest after the Southport attack in 2024 from the luxury of a five-star resort in Cyprus. Now, with his constant moans and allegations, he seems increasingly determined to make sure it’s at the upper end of that!
