The Rest is an Unlikely Aphrodisiac

At least one couple has found Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart's informed analysis the perfect soundtrack to, er, discussing Uganda

Grim listening on showbiz podcast The Rest Is Entertainment, where presenters Richard Osman and Marina Hyde reported how people had been, er, making their own entertainment to their Goalhanger stablement, The Rest Is Politics.

“Somebody out there will have made love while listening to The Rest Is Politics,” intoned Osman of the pod presented by Alastair Campbell (editor-at-large of this parish) and co-host Rory Stewart.

“Joey, our producer, has just given me an incredible detail on it,” responded Hyde. “Someone once emailed Goalhanger to say that they had sex during Rory and Alastair’s interview with Gerry Adams.”

“Wow – that must have been a good Friday,” joshed lanky cosy crime peddler Osman, before airing a clip of the former Sinn Féin president discussing Martin McGuinness’s work in conflict zones – a guaranteed ardour-inducer.

“Do you think that they put it on especially, or it was just on as the evening progressed?” mused Osman.

“Neither is acceptable,” said Hyde, not unreasonably. “I’m so sorry – I said we wouldn’t rush to any judgement, but I just want to say: I’m judging.”

Quick, Alastair: time to unleash your ultimate passion suppressant. To the bagpipes!
