Bev Turner, GB News’s extremely well-remunerated woman in Washington, is coming home – just as the hard right channel reports another whopping loss.
Turner – the former basketball presenter whose fawning interview with Donald Trump is still the subject of a lengthy Ofcom investigation – is returning to London after spending a year in the US capital presenting GB News’ graveyard shift The Late Show Live. She is to be replaced in DC by Tom Harwood who, unlike Turner, will formally take on the role of US political editor.
In its announcement of the move, GB News says that “during her secondment, Bev anchored The Late Show Live on Monday to Thursday and secured two agenda-setting world exclusive interviews with President Donald Trump. Both made headlines across the globe and underlined GB News’s growing position in American political journalism.”
Well, they certainly made headlines – not least the one in November last year, in which the Trump fangirl pitched the president a series of less-than-penetrating questions, including asking how he’d managed to do such a terrific job (“I almost don’t know what you’re going to do for the next few years. You’ve done so much in such a short space of time”), why London is so awful, how brilliant his new ballroom is going to be and why he is the greatest father of all time (“You’re obviously a really good dad”).

That is still being investigated by Ofcom 11 months on for potentially breaching impartiality rules over some of the more egregious lies Trump told going unchallenged by Turner, including his usual drivel about London being governed by Sharia law and that the BBC had not just stitched two parts of his Capitol speech together, but apparently dubbed completely different words over the footage.
How welcome will Turner be back in the channel’s Paddington studios? As Rats in a Sack reported back in April, a brief visit by the former hoops host was not a happy return for everyone, Bev’s habit of mentioning what great friends she is with the president and how she has his personal phone number causing some eye-rolling among staffers.
Others were open-mouthed at rumours that Turner was making a whopping £420,000 a year for doing the overnight shift. It went down as well as one might imagine with producers on a starting salary of £30,000 or camera operators on £24,000.
And now it comes as the latest figures for the financially struggling channel, reported to Companies House this week, are another mass of red ink. GB News reported a £10.5 million loss for the period of June 1 to December 31, 2025, the daily equivalent of £49,282 for each of its seven-month accounting period (it shortened its accounting year from 12 months in August). The loss was run up on £17.4 million in revenue.
Previously the full-year figures for the period to May 31, 2025 reported a £22 million loss on £26.2 million in income, with accumulated ongoing losses running at £141.3 million. Meanwhile its parent company All Perspectives’s net deficit has now climbed to £42.3 million off the back of the losses. Its trading deficit is £164.6 million, partly offset by share capital.
The latest average daily loss does compare favourably with £85,043 run up for each of the 1,662 days it has been on air – but then staff numbers have been cut from 263 to 233 for the full year to May 31, 2025.
Still, the return of Bev, Trump’s bestie, should boost morale in the studio!
