Reform launches own newspaper: here’s what to do with it

Not content with its own TV channel, Nigel Farage's party is planning to print 15 million copies of its own paper. But what should you do with it?

In news surprising to those who thought Reform already had its own channel in the form of GB News, Nigel Farage’s party is now actively recruiting journalists to join its new operation.

Reform is advertising for up to 25 hacks for its online channel, with ads appearing on a number of recruitment sites. One listing, for an “exceptional executive editor” says that the “central priority will be the development of Reform TV and Reform UK’s wider broadcast and video output: creating distinctive programmes and formats, commissioning original content, maximising the Westminster studio and building the production capability required to deliver ambitious live and recorded output at speed”.

It’s unclear how much of the megabucks Reform received this summer courtesy of two billionaire crypto bros it is throwing at the new outlet, with salaries only described as “competitive”. Might it prove a draw for those currently slaving behind the scenes at GB News who, unlike their highly-remunerated on-air ‘talent’, are not particularly well paid?

Could the Today programme’s Justin Webb be tempted? On Monday, the presenter continued his habit of giving Reform the soft-soap treatment by not once questioning self-styled ‘shadow home secretary’ Zia Yusuf’s ludicrous claim that long lists for dental treatment were due to asylum seekers.

Elsewhere, Reform are spending yet more of their millions mailing an eight-page newspaper to 15 million households across the UK. Party sources are claiming to have placed “the biggest paper order in the world this year” ahead of the first edition of The Reformer. The paper is being run by Mick Hume, the former Living Marxism founder and member of the Revolutionary Communist Party who has been on quite the political journey to throw his lot in with Farage’s mob.

New World readers receiving the rag might be tempted to throw it straight in the bin, but a better ploy would be to pop it in a postbox. Mail it back stampless to ‘Reform UK, FREEPOST RTLT-ZXHY-KSDC, London SW1H 0HW’ and, given the likely size and weight of the paper, each return will cost the party a further £2.50 a pop.
