Yet more triumphs for Jeremy Corbyn’s Your Party

Another MP has quit, while its co-convenor in Wales has set up another party entirely

Last time Rats in a Sack checked in on Your Party, Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana’s exciting new operation, it was going as well as ever: one MP, Adnan Hussain, had quit citing its “clique-like behaviour and gatekeeping” and its two co-founders were apparently not speaking nor inviting each other to speak at their respective events.

Still, things must have improved, right? Er… not quite. Firstly, a second MP, Iqbal Mohamed of Dewsbury and Batley, has now walked out, blaming unspecified “false allegations and smears made against me”.

He said in a statement that “the many false allegations and smears made against me and others, and reported as fact without evidence, have been surprising and disappointing. However, I am confident that my colleagues and I have acted professionally, patiently, and in good faith throughout.”

He thanked those who had supported Your Party and wished them “success in their future endeavours”.

Good luck with that! Because over in Wales, the party’s co-convenor, the former Labour MP Beth Winter, appears not to have just split with Corbyn’s operation, but has already registered another, entirely new party with the Electoral Commission. Winter registered Plaid Y Werin (People’s Party) with the Commission on November 19.

Confusion reigns as Winter was supposed to be the co-convenor of Your Party in Wales along with Mark Serwotka, the former general secretary of the PCS union. But last week Winter and Serwotka issued a statement blaming unnamed officials in charge of Your Party UK for stalling the project, saying it was “beyond shameful” that the actions of a few officials were hindering what they were trying to achieve in Wales.

“We will not allow Wales to be treated with contempt, and it is beyond shameful that the actions of a few at the centre of Your Party at a UK level risks hindering what we are trying to achieve here in Wales,” it said.

It all comes just days before the party’s inaugural conference, which takes place in Liverpool. Sultana, who is locked in a battle with the party over the release of funds, is currently not scheduled to speak. For her part, Sultana has not invited Corbyn to appear at a pre-conference rally taking place the night before. Oh, Jeremy Corbyn!
