The prime minister is deeply unpopular, the chancellor may be out of their depth and there is economic misery in the air. So what better time than for Lettuce Liz Truss to stage a comeback!
Britain’s shortest-serving PM, who has spent the last year trying to put together her own free speech platform, has instead returned as the public face of Leconfield House, a Mayfair office and networking centre for the super-rich. With lifetime membership – which can be sold on or inherited – costing a very reasonable £500,000, it is the brainchild of Iranian-born British entrepreneur and Reform donor Robert Tchenguiz.

Truss backs Trump in his war on the BBC
Leconfield House was once the home of MI5, leading unkind observers to suggest that a colossal failure like Truss would be better suited to flogging off memberships to Slough House, the HQ of secret service misfits in Slow Horses.
Amazingly, Truss is still holding out hope of a political comeback, telling Bloomberg that while “this is what I’m doing now, I’m never going to rule anything out or in.”
Her connection to Tchenguiz will inevitably lead to speculation that Truss will quit the Tories for Nigel Farage’s party, although Farage and his inner circle of Richard Tice and Zia Yusuf are said to be desperate to keep her out.
