When Bev Turner wasn’t such a Donald Trump fan

A tweet from five years ago wasn't quite as obsequious as the GB News presenter's recent interview with the US president

GB News’s Bev Turner couldn’t have been more obsequious in her exclusive interview with Donald Trump last Friday night, brown-nosing the president to a degree that even the supplicant sections of the US media rarely manages.

The basketball presenter turned crackpot conspiracy theorist, to whom Trump has taken quite the shine since her arrival in Washington DC, pitched him a series of less-than-penetrating questions, including asking how he’d managed to do such a terrific job (“I almost don’t know what you’re going to do for the next few years. You’ve done so much in such a short space of time”) and pondering why he is the greatest father of all time (“You’re obviously a really good dad”).

How things change! Back on November 6, 2020 – at a time when Trump was claiming the election won by Joe Biden  days earlier had been “stolen” and his supporters were noisily protesting the vote count in several states – Turner’s response was rather different.

“Omg…. Trump just guaranteed violence against the volunteers counting votes….is there nobody around him with any power to stop his insanity…?,” she posted on what was then Twitter. “Not even his family!?! His response was sadly entirely predictable.” She has yet to delete the post five years on.

Now she’s on GB News giving Trump a hard time with ‘questions’ such as: “So as somebody that understands television, I always think when I watch you, I think you have certain different hats you put on. You’ve got your TV guy, you’ve got your property developer guy. Talking about the ballroom, which I think is brilliant…” Is there nobody around poor Bev with any power to stop her insanity?
