The unpalatable return of Gregg Wallace

Seven months after allegations of inappropriate sexual comments forced him out of Masterchef, TV presenter Gregg Wallace is on the comeback trail. But his new venture may prove too rich for some.

The former greengrocer, the subject of 13 separate complaints during his time at the BBC, is appearing in a series of social media videos to promote Gregg Wallace Health, a site featuring recipes and touting Wallace’s ready meals range.

The 11-strong team behind the site includes nine women – though whether they are “middle-class women of a certain age”, as Wallace labelled his critics last year, is a matter for the man himself. Wallace is said to have earned £400,000 a year from Masterchef before his downfall, and his site’s ambitious subscription pricing may be an attempt to make up the shortfall. It costs £11.99 per month, £49.99 for six months or £89.99 for a year to get full access to what the site describes as Gregg’s “tools”. In comparison, a subscription to the New York Times’s Cooking site and app, with its massive library of recipes, costs around £37 per year.
