Telegraph backs Trump taking Greenland

The increasingly unhinged newspaper has published a series of articles supporting the US taking the Danish territory

Greenland’s prime minister Jens Frederik Nielsen is against the US taking control of his territory, saying “that’s enough now” and describing the notion of US control over the island as a “fantasy”. Denmark’s prime minister Mette Frederiksen has said “the US has no right to annex any of the three nations in the Danish kingdom”.

Keir Starmer is against the notion, saying “Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark must decide the future of Greenland and only Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark”. Seven European countries, including France, Germany, Italy and Spain, have signed a joint declaration saying “Greenland belongs to its people”. And even US citizens have little enthusiasm for the idea, according to a survey, with 73% telling YouGov they’re against using force to take over the island.

So who’s actually in favour? Step forward… the Daily Telegraph!

The increasingly unhinged newspaper has run a series of articles over the last few days appearing to back Donald Trump’s baseless claim to the territory, starting with a piece backing the idea by former MI6 chief Richard Dearlove (“I think it’s really important that we look at this, not in terms of, ‘Gosh, isn’t Trump doing dreadful stuff?’ It’s about European security and the safety of the area in which we live”).

It followed this up with a how-to guide to help the States take a land it has no historic claim to whatsoever (‘How Trump can take Greenland without firing a shot’) and a piece by Paul du Quenoy unambiguously headlined ‘Greenland belongs in the United States’.

On Monday 12, it reached its natural crescendo with oddball historian Tim Stanley arguing that Trump is so great that we should not only let him have Greenland but us as well, arguing under the headline ‘Trump controls the world, and Britain ought to let him have it’ that “if Britain had any sense it would accept the Pax Trumpus and politely ask to join it”.

That’s the fervently pro-Brexit Telegraph – Let’s Take Back Control – And Hand It To Trump!
