Russell brands ex-wife’s new man a ‘stooge’

Pity poor Russell Brand. Not only has the one-time comedian and Ed Miliband fan now been reduced to appearing at hard right conventions in the US – he’s now coping with his ex-wife having got a considerable upgrade as a suiter.

Brand – who now poses as a born-again Christian on the American evangelical circuit, having been dunked in the Thames by woggle-botherer Bear Grylls – was speaking at a Turning Point USA event this weekend in Phoenix, Arizona, where the parents of his ex, Katy Perry, were said to be in attendance. Perry is now dating the former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.

The former Big Brother’s Big Mouth presenter, who is facing trial for five sexual assaults, including rape, said he was “OK” with his ex-wife’s relationship with the actor Orlando Bloom, but said he did not approve of the former Canadian prime minister as her new partner.

“Look, Katy Perry, I was married to her,” he told his audience. “I love her still, and I’m glad that her mum’s in the room to hear me say this, but look – I was okay with Orlando Bloom, but Justin Trudeau?

“Come on, man. Don’t put me in a category with that guy – that globalist stooge.”

Brand was was charged in April with one count each of rape, indecent assault and oral rape, as well as two counts of sexual assault, relating to four women. His trial is set to take place in June next year.

Elsewhere in his appearance, the star of the critically-panned 2011 Arthur remake said he would “never be in Hollywood again” and spoke of his “radical change” thanks to religion. “To go from a Hollywood headiness to a Bible-believing Christian is a big journey. But we’ve got a lot of big journeys ahead of us, a lot of radical change. I didn’t think it was possible to be changed in the way that I’ve been changed. I thought it was inconceivable, unimaginable.”

Among those appearing alongside the “Bible-believing Christian” at the Arizona event included Megyn Kelly, Tucker Carlson, Steve Bannon, Donald Trump Jr, Vivek Ramaswamy, Ben Shapiro and Glenn Beck. It’s all a long way since Owen Jones’s infamous “Russell Brand has endorsed Labour – and the Tories should be worried” column…
