Reform’s Andy Burnham claims are a pure fairytale

The party claimed the Manchester mayor was set to inherit a seat in Norfolk – something its serving MP says was ‘hallucinatory Jackanory’

Reform’s first attack ads against Andy Burnham showed him dragging a wheely suitcase on which are written the destinations Rusholme, Norwich South and Makerfield, where he now is likely to stand. The implication is that Manchester’s mayor is an opportunist with no real care where he runs.

There was discussion of Burnham replacing Afzal Khan, who is thought to
fancy a seat in the Lords, in Rusholme. That was quickly dropped over fears
that the seat might go Green or let in a Reform candidate.

But the inclusion of Clive Lewis’s Norfolk seat on the ad is bizarre. The
former soldier said last year that hypothetically he would stand down if it
would help Burnham become PM, but only last week, when the popular GB
Politics social media account declared that he was about to quit his seat, Lewis replied: “Mate this a total hallucinatory Jackanory. Where did you get this guff from – a ouija board?!” As it turns out, a total hallucinatory Jackanory is good enough for the Reform PR team!
