Reform don’t believe in asking for consent

A TV sports pundit was unhappy at finding his image used in a promotional post for Nigel Farage's party

When Reform took to social media to announce the defection of Robert Jenrick from the Conservatives, they did so using footage from Sky Sports’s transfer deadline day coverage, the day its presenters don yellow ties and pretend to get excited about Bournemouth signing a left-back from Getafe.

Unfortunately, they didn’t actually ask to use the footage, and at least one of the presenters is unhappy. The video clip featured the likes of pundits Aidan Magee, Harry Redknapp, Chris Kamara and Dan Bardell, but Bardell objected to its inclusion and has asked the party to remove him.

“I don’t want to be associated with Nigel Farage, can I be removed please?” he said in view of his 50,700 followers. When one Reform-supporting X user, a man called Phil Curley, told Bardell to “stick to football,” he replied, not unreasonably, “I was, and then I’ve ended up on this video”.

Others pointed out that Sky Sports should have been asked for consent to use their footage, but as another user said: “I don’t think they’re a fan of consent, judging by how they were falling over each other to defend Musk and Twitter this week.”
