News UK’s unloved broadcasting arm, Talk, is rumoured to be getting yet another rebrand. TalkTV, launched in April 2022 with much fanfare and a whopping marketing budget, managed to lose £150m in two years before ditching linear TV in May 2024, changing its name to simply Talk and operating as a radio station which also streams as video online.
Now the rumour is that it is in line to get another lick of paint, this time aligning it with an existing member of the News UK family, much as Times Radio does. Step forward SunTalk. If that sounds familiar, it’s because SunTalk was the name of a previous attempt to turn the redtop into a radio station, streamed via the Sun’s website and the product of a “seven-figure investment” in April 2009, only for it to shut down in July 2010 with insiders briefing that it was “not part of News International’s core business and its costs could not be justified.”
