Matthew Goodwin shouts into the void

The academic turned hard right pundit penned a lengthy missive to Elon Musk after he turned on his hero Nigel Farage - but just got ignored

Matthew Goodwin, the academic turned hard right pundit, was particularly unhappy at Elon Musk’s turn against Reform and Nigel Farage on X last week. In an open letter posted on X to the “online right + @elonmusk”, Goodwin launched into a lengthy paean of praise for Farage’s political achievements as “the only anti-establishment politician who has won two nationwide elections with two different parties”.

Goodwin chastised Musk and the “online right” for ditching Farage in favour of a party, Ben Habib’s Advance UK, “99.9% of British people have never heard of” and “a movement that appears to have zero charisma and zero appeal to Middle England”. The problem, he decided, was “an awful lot of people who care much more about their ego than the country”.

Big egos on the online right? Surely not! Sadly for Goodwin, his 1,608-character-long post didn’t get any response from Musk himself. If he wanted the X owner to read it, perhaps he should have remembered Musk’s attention doesn’t extend much longer than 20-second video clips or two-sentence posts.
