Are you an immigrant or an expat? Is migration a threat to a nation’s way of life or an aspirational lifestyle choice? It must be a confusing time for anyone looking at GB News’s website.
The hard right conspiracy-peddling channel’s website today showcases no fewer than 11 anti-immigration articles, including shadow home secretary Chris Philp taking a trip to the Channel, a piece somehow blaming the EU and former Sun editor and rent-a-gob Kelvin MacKenzie demanding the complete closure of all UK borders as “people who travel around London must think, ‘am I in a different country right now?’”.
Among all this, though, is a rather different take. Under the headline ‘The most popular places for British expats to retire to include sunny European hotspots with ‘relaxed, friendly’ lifestyles’, hack Sarra Gray sets out where GBeebies viewers can migrate to, including Portugal, Cyprus and Spain.

Are GB News’s viewing figures really something to shout about?
“Expat communities are widespread in Spain which makes it attractive for Britons hoping to move while still having a touch of home,” writes Gray, reassuring GB News fans they can still get their egg and chips in the sun without having to deal with any of these foreign types.
So is GB News for or against migration? It’s all very confusing!
(Incidentally, sports fans who want to read about the new football season or England’s cricketing exploits may want to look elsewhere. No fewer than four out of the five top sports stories on GB News’s website today are about… er, swimming. Or, more specifically for the culture wars-obsessed station, the issue of trans women competing in the sport.)
