Poor Bev Turner! Attacked over her journalistic credibility after fawning to Donald Trump, the demure GB News presenter and conspiracy theorist was on Tuesday night forced to devote four minutes of her show to a monologue on the thing she hates talking about most – herself.
The former basketball presenter had been ridiculed online after being dubbed a “fantastic reporter” by Trump after once again using her Oval Office access to offer up the president the sort of question he likes.
During a press conference alongside Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Turner veered away from the Iran-based questions the rest of the press pack was focusing on – Yawnsville! – to ask the president about more vital matters.
“Can I ask you how you’re doing with your legal case against the BBC and their fake news documentary?” asked Turner, allowing Trump to unleash another torrent of absolute bullshit. “The BBC was incredible, what they did is they had me speaking something I never said, and I’ve never seen anything quite like it,” he said. “They put words in my mouth and they said I said some pretty bad things and I didn’t say ‘em. It was AI-generated.” (It wasn’t AI-generated, nobody else has said it was AI-generated and AI forms no part of Trump’s legal documents against the BBC.)
Still, Turner got a commendation from her hero (“she’s a fantastic reporter, by the way”) and was granted a rare follow-up question, which she patriotically used to have a go at her own country’s refusal to join a literally aimless war that has put fuel prices up across the world.
“The prime minister isn’t making the case to the British public as to why he should be supporting you. Could you do that now and talk to the UK and to GB News viewers about why it’s in their interests that we help you?” she said, an invitation that Trump ignored to ramble on as usual.

Proud-as-punch GB News political editor Christopher ‘Choppers’ Hope quickly took to X to boast: “NEW President Donald Trump praises GB News’ Bev Turner as a fantastic reporter”.
Alas, some actual journalists wondered how much of an accolade that was. Former Sky News political editor Adam Boulton asked “that’s a compliment?”, while former Channel 4 News man Michael Crick posted “that tweet debases all three of you”. Former Sun editor David Yelland, meanwhile, said: “Oh Chris, you must know this is no badge of honour”.
This forced the normally bashful Bev to use her show last night to hit back and insist she was no gushing fangirl.
“What are they accusing me of?,” she asked. “Because maybe they don’t know me very well. But Chris Hope does know me. And anybody who’s worked on this show for the past eight months does know me. Anyone who’s watched my journalism career will know: I do not bend for anyone. And I think the accusation is I am just cosying up to Trump and agreeing with what he says.
“No, no, no, no, no. You’ve completely misunderstood, David Yelland and the above. It is not that. I know what I believe in. The president happens to believe in the same things. It is not me cosying up to the president.” She then threw to Paul Cox – a comedian, apparently – who assured her it was “envy”.
Or maybe not. Last year Turner was granted a full sit-down with the leader of the free world and pitched him a series of less-than-penetrating questions, including asking how he’d managed to do such a terrific job (“I almost don’t know what you’re going to do for the next few years. You’ve done so much in such a short space of time”),how brilliant his new ballroom is going to be and why he is the greatest father of all time (“You’re obviously a really good dad”).
Never one to duck the probing questions, Turner asked: “So as somebody that understands television, I always think when I watch you, I think you have certain different hats you put on. You’ve got your TV guy, you’ve got your property developer guy. Talking about the ballroom, which I think is brilliant.” What a fantastic reporter!
