‘BBC Hootenanny fury erupts as fans ‘switch off’ Jools Holland show over ‘dreadful’ line-up: ‘Same old BBC approved WOKE celebs!’, ran a headline on GB News’s website this week as the channel reported on an apparently raging response to the boogie-woogie man’s annual jamboree.
“Jools Holland’s latest Hootenanny special on the BBC has come under fire following its latest incarnation to see out 2025,” reported the channel’s entertainment editor, Alex Davies. “It wasn’t just musical guests who received airtime, as Mr Holland spoke to famous attendees, including left-leaning comedians Nish Kumar and Lenny Henry.”
Exposing how the pair had used their appearance to spout political views, he added that Henry had told Holland: “I think resolutions are about love and unity. I think we need to unite as a people in this country and get together.”

“It didn’t take long for social media to become awash with complaints from those watching at home,” added Davies.
And how “awash” were those complaints from viewers enraged with this flagrant celebration of wokery? Davies managed to unearth a whole six posts on X moaning about the programme, only one of which actually referred in any way to it being “woke”. Others were more underwhelmed at the seasoned nature of many acts, such as Ronnie Wood, Lulu and Heather Small.
The sole complaint about it being “full of the now stupid woke wankers that voted in the worst government in British history” came from an X account with the handle @2000Jcc1. It has 661 followers and spends its days reposting the likes of Rupert Lowe, Tucker Carlson and Ben Habib.
It’s difficult to see how the BBC will survive this one!
