In a crowded field, Fox News’s Jesse Watters might well have taken the prize for crassest coverage of the death of Renee Nicole Good, the woman killed by ICE agents in Minneapolis.
Rather than ask why she was shot during a confrontation with officers, Watters chose to give his audience extraneous and irrelevant information about the prize-winning poet, including the damning news that… she had “pronouns in her bio” and “leaves behind a lesbian partner and a child from a previous marriage”, evidence, it appears, that she was the “domestic terrorist” the Trump administration claims (he did not mention that she was also a devoted Christian).

Et tu, QAnon Shaman?
For those unaware of the Watters oeuvre, though, this is at the milder end of his psychosis. The hard right journalist has, among other things, told viewers as fact that that pop singer Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce’s relationship was part of a “psyop” directed by the US Department of Defense, and, 18 months ago, claimed he “heard the scientists say the other day that when a man votes for a woman, he actually transitions into a woman”.
He has appeared to endorse the lunatic QAnon movement, claiming it had “uncovered a lot of great stuff when it comes to Epstein and it comes to the deep state”, called for the US to invade Canada as he wanted to “quench my imperialist thirst” and has a lengthy and deeply weird obsession with men doing things which apparently make them weak, including eating ice cream and shopping with their wives.
Watters has also called for the physical destruction of the UN, saying just last year that “what we need to do is either leave the UN or we need to bomb it. Maybe gas it… we need to destroy it.” Still, in terms of inviting police attention, not as serious as having pronouns in one’s bio.
