The Daily Sceptic, the website owned and published by Brexit-loving Tory peer Toby Young, has been running a series of articles aimed at “challenging climate change orthodoxy”.
One recent contribution, by Gautam Kalghatgi, takes aim at electric vehicles (EVs), arguing that the drive towards electrification is both environmentally futile and economically damaging. If the UK continues to push EV adoption, he claims, the “British auto industry will be sacrificed on the altar of the green cult but will yield negligible reduction in global emissions”. Overall, he concludes, “the case for EVs has failed”.

The Daily Sceptic is understandably keen to highlight Kalghatgi’s impressive credentials, noting that he “has been a visiting professor at Oxford University and Imperial College London” and is “a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering”.
Nonetheless, Rats in a Sack feels the Daily Sceptic has been a bit stingy in outlining the full breadth of Kalghatgi’s experience.
Fortunately, Kalghatgi himself has filled in some of the gaps. In a previous parliamentary submission, he set out his professional background in greater detail. These include the 31 years he spent working at Shell Research (part of oil giant Shell) in the UK, followed by a further eight years at Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil company.
