Carole Malone’s humiliating apology to Meghan’s mum

Right wing hack Carole Malone and GB News have been forced into a humiliating apology over the Duchess of Sussex’s mother.

Earlier this month Rats in a Sack reported how Malone, a tabloid veteran whose rage-baity views have made her a regular TV booking, informed GB News viewers how Meghan Markle has been raised by her father Thomas while her mother Doria Ragland was in prison – something which has absolutely no basis in fact.

Challenged on this at the time by a fellow guest, Malone blustered that it had happened “years ago… do you want me to give you the precise dates, because I haven’t got them?” The lack of detail was unsurprising as Ragland has never been in jail. Malone had fallen for a notorious conspiracy theory popularised by far right nutjobs.

GB News quickly removed clips of this fake news from their social media feeds, but Ofcom received several complaints – and now Malone has been forced to make a humiliating on-air apology.

“In an episode of Britain’s News on Thursday, December 4, 2025, I stated that Thomas Markle, the Duchess of Sussex’s father, brought Meghan up while her mother, Doria Ragland, was in prison,” she stated in a heartfelt statement absolutely not written by a lawyer and read from an autocue.

“I believed this to be the case based on what I now understand to be misinformation I had seen online. I was questioned by the validity of this claim during the broadcast and I repeated this belief, which I now understand to be false.

“This was a genuine error. I accept what I have now been told on behalf of Miss Ragland, that she raised her daughter and that she has never been in prison or jail. I apologise sincerely to Miss Ragland and her family for any pain I may have caused and I’m happy to set the record straight.”

Which is all very embarrassing for Malone, who one might think would like to lie low for a while. But no – in just the past couple of days she’s been all over X, using the Bondi Beach tragedy to claim that “this Government is appeasing Islamists just like the Australian Gov did” and attacking Sadiq Khan as “the worst, most ineffectual Mayor London has ever had”.

In addition, she’s been happily reposting words of praise from those defending her for her horrendous mistruth, including “I think she is a powerful journalist she has strong views and has a backbone to run as an MP I think she is brilliant as a woman with power and as a person”. “How lovely. Thank You. Your support is much appreciated!,” responded Malone to her fan, an X user called ElliesFabulousLondon whose bio reads “xrp is the key, my xrpl. rESYDwyUi1sAVy2Ginfb742sQ9vT1TijPr”.
