Last month, Rats in a Sack reported on how Reform had launched a national competition for one winner and their entire street to get their energy bills paid for by the party for a full year.
The stunt was designed to bring attention to its back-of-a-fag-packet policy to cut household energy bills – saving £200 each by scrapping VAT and green levies – as well as doubling as a handy data collection exercise, as entrants had to hand over all their details to Nigel Farage’s party.
Now a winner has been announced, with lucky winner June from Wigan getting a surprise knock on the door from Farage and Treasury spokesman Robert Jenrick, complete with a bunch of flowers and one of those giant cheques which used to appear in local newspaper pictures 30 years ago. “I give you flowers, but Robert Jenrick’s gonna give you hard cash,” he chortled before the Tory turncoat handed over £1,758.

And by an incredible coincidence, June from Wigan and her husband just happen to be… active members of Reform going back years! Photos online show them at a Brexit Party rally with Ann Widdecombe at the home of non-league football club AFC Fylde as long ago as 2019.
“What a fantastic surprise for two of our staunch Wigan Branch Members and ALL of their neighbours today, when Nigel Farage knocked on their door with Robert Jenrick in tow, to present them as winners of the recent ‘Nigel Pay My Bills’ competition – the winners and EVERYONE in their street, gets their bills paid for a Year!! [sic],” cheered the party’s local branch on Facebook. “Congratulations to a very deserving and truly lovely couple.”
“I wish someone had won it who looks like they needed it but hey ho,” moaned one follower. “It was a Nationwide [sic] competition, anyone could have won,” responded the party. It just so happened to be a party stalwart!
