Congratulations to the Daily Telegraph, whose podcast The Daily T was named the year’s best launch at a swanky awards ceremony at London’s Vauxhall Arches last night.
Somewhat awkwardly, though, in the period between the paper submitting its Publisher Podcast Awards entry and picking up its gong, it gave one of its two co-presenters, Kamal Ahmed, the heave-ho. Ahmed was appointed the Telegraph’s director of audio in May last year before becoming surplus to requirements earlier this month, and wasn’t in the picture of the podcast team celebrating at the ceremony posted on social media by producer Georgia Coan.
Ahmed’s background at the BBC and Observer lent the podcast some balance alongside co-presenter and GB News favourite Camilla Tominey. His replacement is someone incredibly even more right wing than Tominey – Tim Stanley, whose frothing columns have recently included ‘The Left’s contempt for our culture will destroy Britain’, ‘Starmer succumbs to the EU hook, line and sinker’ and, er, ‘I’m praying that the 60s cultural revolution is finally over’. Should be a great listen!
