About us

The New European (TNE ) was founded as a four-week pop-up in 2016 — a spasm of anger, protest and fear as the UK chose to vote for its own decline. Almost a decade on, it gives us no satisfaction to say we’ve been proved right by the economic and political weakening now almost universally recognised as the consequence of Brexit. But one good thing to come from it all – we’re still here, still growing, still providing an antidote to the trivialising populism and nationalism of so much of the UK media.

The world is facing challenges we’ve never seen before. We need fresh thinking, not the same tired answers from yesterday’s playbook. The reality is, we are all in a new world now. The New World is about understanding how we got here, and where we go next.

The New World, like The New European before it, is a voice that cuts through the noise. Bold, clever, funny and fierce — we’re not afraid to take a side, or to call out nonsense when we see it. We have strong opinions, but we also respect facts. We don’t do doom and gloom for the sake of it. We believe things can change for the better — and we’re here to help make that happen.

TNW is available every Thursday at leading newsagents, or delivered directly to your door with a weekly subscription. Digital editions can also be accessed via our website or app – perfect for reading on your phone, tablet, or computer.

The Two Matts podcast is available every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. You can download it through our website, or wherever you get your podcasts.
