Randy Andy! Air Miles Andy! The now simply-monickered Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been bestowed with many sobriquets from the tabloid press down the years – but it appears his nickname among his own security detail may have been a touch more earthy.

Footage from a four-year-old interview from Australia’s 60 Minutes programme with former personal protection officer Paul Page has reemerged on social media in the light of the former prince helping the police with their enquiries. In it, presenter Tara Brown presses him on what Andrew was known as.

“Did Prince Andrew have a nickname at that time?” she asks, smiling.

“His official code… so, if he was to come into the palace his call code was Purple Four-One,” says Page. “But he did have a nickname, but it’s a bit rude for me to tell you… I’ll tell you, but you’re not gonna be able to air it.

“He was just called… do you want me to tell you?”

“Yeah,” says Brown.

“He was called the c**t,” says Page. “Plain and simple.”

Fortunately, it being Australia, the word was aired in full.
