New World Restaurant first opened its doors in November 1991 by Kim and Vinh, who own and run the Restaurant.

The House Chef, Vinh, has over 20 years of experience in the cooking industry. In 1980, he was a chef at the Taipan Restaurant in Knightsbridge, London; owned by Lord Lichfield, and has cooked food for various dignitaries including Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana.

In 1991, the New World had opened up in Tewkesbury to an excellent reception, with classical music star Nigel Kennedy making a surprise appearance on the opening night.

The Restaurant appeared in the Good Food Guide for three years from 1993, whilst two years later in 1995, the Restaurant was featured in an article in the Daily Telegraph, describing the Restaurant as an "ambitious, well run outfit", and "proof positive that one could let one's hair down,".

Since 1994, the New World has also been recommended by the Lonely Planet guide to Britain.
